Current Pastor (since 2011; moving in July 2021)
Nathan Gladish, M.Div., MA (Community Counseling). Since graduating from Theological School in 1981, Nathan has been continuing to learn, grow, and serve as a pastor, preacher, teacher, counselor, officiant, administrator, and "jack-of-all-trades" in a variety of churches around the United States.
Nathan and Elise have been married since 1980 and together have raised five (now adult) children. They work together as a team in various Sunrise Chapel activities and programs. Elise is trained as an elementary school teacher and has loved her years of working with kindergarten students in several church schools as well as supporting Sunday School and other children's programs. After a decade of a wonderful experience in Sunrise Chapel, Tucson, and the incredible state of Arizona, they are moving in July to be closer to several children and grandchildren on the East Coast. Nathan is not retiring - yet! Just shifting to new opportunities to serve.
Next Pastor, starting July 2021
Ethan and his wife, Jessica, are currently serving our sister church in London, England where they have been for the past 5 years. Before that they served congregations in Sarver, PA and Seattle, WA. They are excited about moving to sunny Tucson this summer to serve Sunrise Chapel as the next pastor and wife team!
The McCardells have five children, ages 10-18.
In Loving Memory of Frank S. Rose
Rev. Frank S. Rose, age 93, died peacefully surrounded by family on 10/15/20. Frank is known to many in Tucson as the retired pastor of Sunrise Chapel, a renowned watercolor artist, accomplished lecturer, and avid hiker. Born September 11, 1927, near Philadelphia, Frank was the 9th of 12 children of Don and Marjorie Rose. He served in the army for a year and a half just after WWII ended. After acting as pastor of churches in England and Canada, he moved to Tucson in 1982, where he established Sunrise Chapel on Wrightstown Road. Painting was a beloved hobby all his life. He was a member and past president of the Southern Arizona Watercolor Guild. After he retired, Frank turned his eye to the flowers he saw on hikes on Mt. Lemmon as subject matter for his paintings and photographs. With help from botanists but with no formal training, he became enough of an authority on the local flora to publish popular field guides to the wildflowers and trees of the Santa Catalina mountains. Frank had a positive impact on an extraordinarily large number of people, including participants in his uplifting church services, camps, and classes, the hundreds of couples whose weddings he performed, the people whose homes he beautified with his art, and the nature lovers whom he helped to identify a plant or to see it in a new way. He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Louise Rose, his children Jonathan Rose (Kristin), Alan Rose (Lesilee), Elizabeth Zeno (Mike), Jeremy Rose (Carol), and Owen Rose (Susan), 13 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Thank you to everyone who participated in the Zoom “reception” immediately after the memorial service.
The online reception was wonderful, with many family and friends joining to visit, tell stories, and share from the heart. It was a testament to Frank’s love of connecting with people an encouraging meaningful listening. The gathering was another heartwarming message of love to Frank’s wife, Louise, and their children and grandchildren. Thank you for participating!
The Zoom reception was only a live event, and was not recorded for viewing afterwards.
Thank you especially to Kelly Woofenden, a very good friend of the family, for expertly hosting the reception which included over 70 devices at the peak and lasted almost 4 hours.
