The Lord's Grace... Amazing

August 26

This Sunday, our service focuses on the topic of God’s grace – what it is, what it isn’t, and what is our part in receiving and responding to the Lord’s grace. In Psalm 86, God is called “full of compassion, gracious, longsuffering and abundant in mercy and truth.” It is God’s nature to be full of grace toward everyone all the time. Can we be like that? “May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.” (Revelation 22:21).

Spiritual Kinship

August 19

“Whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.” Matthew 12:50
Today, we welcome our former pastor, Rev. Glenn Alden, to conduct our worship service. He and his wife, Mary, are home in Tucson briefly before going back to Brisbane, Australia to continue to serve the church there in retirement. They plan to help “down under” for the next two years.

The Thrill of Victory

August 12

Recently - far away from earth - the Martian rover, “Curiosity” was safely lowered to the surface of Mars. As soon as data confirmed its successful landing, rocket scientists, engineers and managers at the Jet Propulsion Lab reacted with a giddy outburst of cheering, clapping, high fives, hugs, and celebration. It was a thrilling accomplishment!
Achievements can be so exciting. And throughout our efforts and trials, the Lord is constantly giving us support toward the most important goals of our lives.

Handling Life's Pressures

August 5

What kinds of pressure have you experienced? If you aren’t noticeably feeling pressure right now, certainly you have in the past; and no doubt you will again, sometime. In fact, we can’t live without certain pressures - air pressure, blood pressure. A certain amount of psychological pressure can also be a good thing. Just ask an Olympic athlete. But how we handle certain pressures, either too high or too low, can also be debilitating. Today, let’s look at the ups and downs of pressure in our everyday lives. The Lord never gives us more than He can handle.

Make Connections with God

July 29

I know several people who are experts in designing and manufacturing connectors for the auto industry. Connectors are often precise instruments that take a tremendous amount of engineering, and yet when they work well, you don’t even notice them.
What about God connectors? How can we make them? What “tools” do we need? How can we maintain them? For our Bible text, we will be looking at Jesus’ metaphor about connecting: “I am the vine, you are the branches” (John 15:5).

Two Stories from The Book of Revelation

Part One - “Gates of Pearl”

June 3

The final book of the New Testament, Revelation, contains a vision of a holy city with twelve gates made of pearl. Why pearl? Jesus referred to "the pearl of great price." Could finding that pearl lead to opening a way to heavenly life?

Part Two - "The Four Horsemen"

June 10

The book of Revelation, also known as the Apocalypse, is a series of visions with great spiritual meaning. This Sunday we will explore one of them – the vision of four different colored horses and their riders. In general, horses mentioned in the Lord’s Word symbolize some aspect of human understanding (or lack of it). John’s vision of four horses shows four different viewpoints we can take to move toward any particular decision in our lives.

Part One - Sunday, May 6

“What Kind of Perfection Are You Seeking?”

“The Lord does not see as we see; for we look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” I Samuel 16:7

Advertising, stores, movies – almost everywhere we look we’re barraged with messages urging the pursuit of “perfection”. But perfection is so elusive. In fact, seeking certain kinds of perfection can lead to great loss and sadness. What kind of perfection does the Lord want us to pursue?

Part Two - Sunday, May 13

"Dealing with the Imperfections of Others"

What might the world be like if everyone looked at each other the way a mother looks at her children – with love, understanding, encouragement and forgiveness?
This is the second in a three-part series on “The Pursuit of Perfection.” But, wait! No one is ever perfect! Precisely. That’s why it’s so important to learn how to respond lovingly and wisely to one another’s imperfections.

We will also be celebrating Mother's Day! All girls and women will receive a gift symbolizing our appreciation for mothers and mothering. A luncheon will follow in Friendship Hall. Everyone welcome!

Part Three - Sunday, May 20

"What Does God Expect of Us?"

Have you ever wondered how good is good enough to get into heaven? How high is the bar? What are the entrance requirements? To conclude this three-part sermon series we will consider the New Testament story of the rich young ruler who asked Jesus how “perfect” he needed to be to inherit eternal life (Matthew 19:16-22). It’s not as hard as you may think.

Q&A with God - The Lord has questions. How will we answer?

Sunday, April 15 at 11am - In a post-resurrection appearance to His disciples, Jesus asks, "Why are you troubled? Why do doubts arise in your hearts?"

Sunday, April 22 at 11am - Jesus asks Peter, "Do you love Me?"

HAPPY EASTER - Everyone welcome!

Sunday, April 8 at 7am - An outdoor service in our "worship garden" - simple and inspirational, followed by coffee and hot cross buns in Friendship Hall

Sunday, April 8 at 11am - Celebrate our Lord's resurrection in a festive, family atmosphere.

Q&A with God - The Lord has questions; how will you answer?

Sunday, Jan. 8 - "Why Are You Afraid?"

Jesus asked His disciples - "Why are you so afraid? Have you still no faith?" Fear is a common human experience. What does the Lord teach us about making the most of healthy fears

and reducing the impact of dysfuntional fears?

Sunday, Jan. 15 - "Do You Want To Be Made Well?"

Jesus asked this of a man who had a chronic illness. Of course we all want to be healthy. What can we do to improve our spiritual health?

Sunday, Jan. 22 - "Do You Understand What I've Done for You?"

Jesus posed this question after He washed His disciples' feet. He was teaching by example. What does this mean for us today?

The Christmas Season

Sunday, Dec. 4 - The First People Who Met the Lord

Sunday Dec. 11 - Prophecy #1

There are hundreds of prophecies of the Lord's coming into the world. How do they connect to our celebration of Christmas? What meaning do they add to our lives?

Sunday, Dec. 18 - Prophecy #2

We all make predictions about many things in our lives. What is the difference between ordinary predictions and prophecies?
